November 4, 2016

A Note from Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Tomorrow is the big day! The Auction is finally here. All of the buckaroos and desperados will be gathering at the Round-Up to celebrate—Western style—the Madeleine community. It promises to be a great night of fun and excitement as we see who will be the highest bidders.

Kudos to our Auction Chairs, Lisa Colling, Matt Kohlbecker, Alisa Pyszka and Andy Steiner, for their tireless efforts to make this auction the best one ever. I can’t begin to name and thank all of the sub-chairs for their many hours of help. They are the behind the scenes workers who make sure this event goes off without a hitch. We are so fortunate for everyone who stepped forward to play a part in this undertaking.

The biggest winners, of course, are our children who will be the beneficiaries of everyone’s generosity. The Auction is our largest fundraiser and supports the programs that we are able to offer. For example, we are so blessed to have a vibrant art, music, and science curriculum in addition to our outstanding core curriculum. Our library, computer lab, and reading team provide resources to help our students achieve their fullest potential.

We strive to live out our mission statement of nurturing the growth of the whole child, but we need your support to make it happen. So, in advance, please accept my thanks for your help in making Saturday’s event the best hoedown ever.

                                                                   Sincerely,

                                                                   Susan

Night of auction schedule

Register for a volunteer bidder number

If you're working at the auction thank you! But don't think you have to be left out of the fun! Simply stop by the cashier stations on Saturday in the Fireside Room immediately before or during the Silent Auction and ask for a Volunteer Bidder Number

Self check-in in your Inbox

All Auction attendees should have received an email inviting them to do an online self-checkin. Our suggestion? DO IT! It'll save you time when you get to the auction, as all you'll have to do is stop by the Fireside Room and get your drink ticket(s) and bidder-number wristband.

Check Out the Auction Catalog!

Facebook & Instagram

Be sure to use #madeleineauction2016 when posting to Facebook or Instgram so we can capture all the great photos of the night.

NO SUITS!

We want to see you in jeans and cowboy garb. This is all about kickin' back and having fun.

Group Bidding —Go in together for big items!

Have you always wanted to bid on one of the delicious dinner parties or trips you hear about in the Live Auction, but thought it was out of your price range? Well, the secret is to strategize with your friends before the auction.

Let’s say the dinner you have your eye on is for eight people. Pick three other couples you’d like to spend the evening with and volunteer to be the bidder for the group. Then determine the maximum you want to spend per couple. The night of the auction, collect bidder numbers from your friends, and when you successfully bid for that delicious dinner, submit all four bidder numbers to the recorder. Voila! You will each be charged for just your portion of the total bid. Enjoy the auction!

Thank you so much to the many parents who fed us with such loving care.

WE NEED VOICES...ESPECIALLY YOURS! The Madeleine is producing a first-ever Christmas album just in time for this Christmas. Under the direction of Madeleine Musical Director, Maria Manzo, students from the parish school and the members of the Madeleine Choir will join voices for this very special collaboration. But we need you too!!  – We are including everyone on our group finale extravaganza … students, parents, faculty, staff as well as any and all from our Parish community.

St. Stephen's Lunch Programlunches

Making a difference, one lunch at a time!

The Cubs were not the only ones who hit it out of the park these last two weeks. The 1st and 2nd grade far surpassed their fellow classmates. Mrs. Witka's 2nd grade brought in 365 lunches and Mrs. Dillon's 1st grade brought in 430 lunches. A total of 795 lunches that fed people in need in downtown Portland. Our friends at St. Stephen's are overjoyed and full of thanks for your thoughtfulness and kindness. Thank you all for making such a strong commitment in feeding the hungry this year.

St. Vincent de Paul Door-to-Door Food Drive

November 19 @ 9am

We need all hands on deck for our annual Door to Door food drive on Saturday, November 19 from 9:00am - 11:00am. Meet under the carport on the 23rd Street side. We will break into groups, and hit the streets going door to door collecting food.

This is a fantastic whole family opportunity to help feed the hungry in our community. Parents, get your children involved in volunteering/charity work.
Children, show your parents how good you are at helping feed the poor.
Teens, great way to stock up on needed community service hours for school.

We desperately need your help! We are going to try to feed 100 families this holiday. Wow, that’s a lot of food!

Honor our servicemen and servicewomen: “Blue Mass” Nov. 13

Please make a point of joining us Sunday, November 13 at 10:00 am, for a special “Blue Mass” in thanksgiving for all those who are in service to our community and our country.

ALL parishioners, family, friends and colleagues—active or retired—from all branches of Military service, Police or Fire, are encouraged to wear their uniforms for this Mass.

We will have a special blessing and music to honor your service to our community and to our country.

Remembering our beloved dead

The month of November is traditionally the time in the Catholic Church when we remember those who have passed, both in the previous year and before. This year, we have several ways to remember those who have come before us.

Photos or Memorial Cards

Also, in November, please bring photos or memorial cards of your deceased family members and friends to place on the Altar of the Dead during the month of November. The Altar is next to the tabernacle. Please make sure all photos are clearly marked on the back with name and phone number so they can be returned during Advent.

Remembrance Envelopes

In the pews, you’ll find envelopes for remembering people dear to you who have passed away. Please print legibly the names of the deceased whom you would like to be remembered during November.

Information Station!

Our information table, now known as the Information Station, is back! Look to the back of the church every Mass, and you’ll see the table, staffed during the Mass and immediately afterward by Cathy Armstrong and her band of helpers. What can you do there?

  • Join a ministry
  • Find out about our latest events and occasions.
  • Update your parish registration
  • Register at The Madeleine, if you aren’t already.
  • Request a Mass Intention
  • Update or make your Parish Stewardship Pledge

The Information Station will be set up after most weekend Masses. Stop by and say “hi”!
