The Madeleine Gymnasium

The Madeleine School Gymnasium is utilized by the school every day for a variety of uses, primarily as the physical education classroom. It is also used for school and parish fundraising events. It is within the school security perimeter, and students travel freely from all parts of the school to the gymnasium. It houses sporting equipment, event equipment and cleaning equipment. It also houses the physical education teacher’s office.

Utilization of the gym for purposes other than those of the Madeleine Parish and School are limited to an agreement with the Catholic Youth Organization for basketball and volleyball practices and games, which are contractual and paid for.

CYO Use

CYO may schedule evening and weekend use of the gymnasium by submitting a schedule to the parish front office and the school front office as early preceding use as is possible. The parish front office will be responsible for recording the schedule on the parish calendar as well as scheduling door locks to be open per the schedule.

CYO may not schedule practices or games during school hours, on days where the school and parish are both closed for a holiday, or prior to noon on Sundays. If the school is closed for inclement weather, all CYO reservations are cancelled for that day.

CYO may only use the gymnasium for full practices in which at least half of the practicing team is present for the practice. If a game is cancelled, CYO may still use the gym for a practice.

CYO must always have a responsible adult/site monitor on the premises. If no responsible adult/site monitor arrives, the game or practice is cancelled.

Other use

Other use will be extremely limited, and at the discretion of the priest and the principal. The intent is to preserve the classroom efficacy, student safety, and facility maintenance.
